Three years ago, I posted a chart showing price per megapixel, showing how the cost had halved every 18 months for decades.
The price to buy a digital camera has not changed since I posted that. But I don't think that's because the price of the sensor hasn't dropped. Instead, I think something fundamental has changed about how cameras are purchased. Look at this chart:
